I had a cat who could open doors. I suppose it's possible. What is probable is that I'd hear a splash in the middle of the night as the idiot cat falls in.

I'd suggest that Dad try it with his, but he has to shut them out of the bathroom, or they make like the Andrex puppy with the toilet roll. And Mum won't consider it, because her cats defiantly go outside (even in the pouring rain!). Also, she has variable-flush push-buttons on top of the cistern, and that might take them a while to learn.
