Did you like Scott Pilgrim vs the World? Watching it now and finding it utterly tedious.

Is it a gay Batman cartoon?

not any more so than one would expect as a baseline...

I really liked the movie, but not as much as I loved the books.

The only bit I liked was New Superman and dairy kryptonite.

I must admit I've only ever read one graphic novel - From Hell. I like the Victorian era and tales of serial killers though.

If you enjoyed From Hell, I would strongly recommend that you try V For Vendetta.

I was put off by the film. See also: Watchmen.

The book is far darker and more rewarding than the fillum. See also: Watchmen ;-)

facts.

watchmen the comic is TEN MILLION TIMES better. the film misses the point, rather a lot!

From: [identity profile] sarape.livejournal.com
Yes, EXACTLY ten millionty times better.

(Worryingly, every time I re-read it I agree more and more with Rorsach. This can not, I think, be healthy).

i agree that it's unhealthy! (i might nurse strange FEELINGS for smelly super-repressed vigilante gingers. that doesn't mean i support their politics!)

watchmen is good even if you hate superheros - because most of them aren't super, and none of them are heros.

As a trade union activist I find it worrying that I find myself wondering if I might profitably employ some of his methods ...

The human fallibility of the "superheros" is the essential point of Watchmen, which is what makes it essential reading.

Should we point the Hoor towards the Ballad Of Halo Jones? Now she IS a role model.

the finger breaking? or the breaking into your only friend's house and stealing foodstuffs?

uncertain! i sort of liked it when i was 15, but never finished it - and i think i heard it was left unfinished?

The coping with the shit that life throws at you, the support of of friends and supporting them, the moral choices when push comes to shove ...

It was left unfinished; we all are.

Spider Jerusalem surely. And Oi Hoor, I like your friends, mine don't do comics.

I'm dating a vigilante ginger, but he washes. Until now had not realised it was my shameful love being expressed.

Is he a vigilante? Does he have a cape?

Date: 2010-12-04 09:46 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] ladynina.livejournal.com
He's currently (I can hear frantic typing and I have been shouting abuse at over heard phone calls through the day) trying to kick one of the most tory NUS branches in the country into action on Weds and seems to be succeeding, that counts yes?

He's not allowed to wear the cape out in case he gets sucked into an engine - given he's an engine noise specialist this could actually happen.

V for Vendetta is the best comic ever made. fuck the film - read the comic. instant love.

Oh that looks amazing,

I had been meaning to read Maus, the friend who gave me From Hell told me I should read it next, but I didn't get round to it.

I have avoided Scott Pilgrim like a dose of the clap - it doesn't even remotely appeal to me.

Have to say, I thought Watchmen did an admirable job with the film. Obviously bits had to go, it's the same with almost all comic adaptations.

I didn't read a single bad review and now I'm boggling a bit. A lot of people said it was like Spaced, and obviously the directing style was but it wasn't funny (apart from the vegan superhero) or exciting.

I haven't read the Scott Pilgrim comics, but I thought the film was wonderfully silly.

It's silly alright. It reminded me of Kill Bill but without decent fights.

As with most things comic book derived I decided not to watch it (actually have seen a few various Batmen were variable, was pleasantly surprised by Watchmen, disappointed in V, haven't got around to Sin City) and nothing I've heard from those who've read it makes me want to.

Hated Watchmen with a passion.

Sin City - I wouldn't call it misogynistic but it comes very close.
