In the interests of science I endeavored to make hot buttered rum. [livejournal.com profile] unav  wanted to know did the butter float on the top and now I can catagorically state 'sort of'.

First you must cream together 2/3 cup of soft brown sugar and half a cup of butter. The recipe called for 1/4 cup of honey; I added a tablespoon as I only had manuka and it tastes a bit odd.   Also added were around half a teaspoon of cinnamon, a shake or two of nutmeg and about four cloves.

I then threw in 3/4 cup of Morgan' Spiced Rum and whisked it all together. It didn't look appetising.

I added 2 cups of boiling water and whisked some more. This was a bit more like it:

The mixture was poured into an Irish coffee mug where it eventually settled much like a pint of Guinness would with a nice creamy head.

It tastes divine, like a very flavoursome cream liqueur.  It is incredibly rich though, so rich I can't see myself having more than two.  I feel quite full after drinking it!  This would be a perfect drink at Christmas, and it's lovely when the weather outside is a bit nippy.

I have both Captain Morgain (not spiced though, sadly) and 8yr old Bacardi sitting around at home. I think I may have to use one or both of them for some of this :D
